Transforming Fear to Joy

YOGA ACTIONS for Ardha Adho Mukha Vrksasana

When our body experiences physical, mental, or emotional stress, it releases hormones that produce cortisone and adrenaline in the bloodstream. Once circumstances return to ‘normal’, the body naturally eliminates or clears these hormones via urine, etc. However, if the stress does not abate and we continue to react, this constant low-level stress creates a toxic situation in the body.

Physical activity is the most effective way to remove excess cortisol from the body. Asanas physically move the body while simultaneously interfacing with the nervous system. Thus, this mind-body practice additionally promotes overall healing. We enlighten our bodies and minds by reducing inflammation and transforming samskaras — our negative thoughts, words, and deeds.

Enhance your physical, energetic, and mental-emotional resilience by engaging the three yoga actions listed below in Half Handstand.

Click on the audio file below for my verbal instructions.

Yoga Action (Annamaya Kosha):
– The inner arches lift to the inner ankles, which lift to the inner knees, which lift to the inner groins.
– The outer hips release/draw to the outer knees, which release to the outer ankles, and into the outer heels.

Yoga Action (Pranamaya Kosha):
– Keeping the action of the legs, allow/feel the rebounding energetic lift from the bottom centre of each foot up the legs into the pelvis and along the spine.

Yoga Action (Manomaya Kosha):
– rest in the pose by silently repeating to yourself “I am powerful, and the Earth supports me.”

NOTE: It may take more than one pose before you awaken these yoga actions or areas in your body and begin to feel the arising sensations and releases. In that case, apply the three yoga actions to the following poses –

SUPTA PADANGUSTHASANA I, II, III
PLANK
ADHO MUKHA SVANASANA
