Transforming Fear to Joy

Whether exercising our physical body, reading a novel, or practicing a spiritual teaching, we open ourselves to learning something new. Within any of these experiences, the opportunity exists for us to move our knowledge needle closer to answering Life’s big three questions — Where do we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going? Ultimately, personal mastery is a journey toward solving these mysteries and unveiling the meaning of life. Arguably, the main tenet of all spiritual practices and religions is to move us forward in our pursuit of these truths.

The ultimate aim of the human mind, in all its efforts, is to become acquainted with truth. Eliza Farnham

On our journey toward truth, there are times when we experience what being stuck in a rut feels like. For those who find themselves in this state, lack of movement signals that confusion reigns. Our confusion surfaces in the foggy territory of not having been there before and/or not being able to see a clear destination. Interestingly, learning to accept that the fog of uncertainty and confusion is a normal occurrence in every adventure allows us to explore new avenues until we discover what moves our journey forward.

During confusing times, exploration is vital. To stay stuck is to deprive ourselves of joy. The poem below from my latest poetry book, Mad Woman Laughing, speaks to moving into mastery.

Keep On Moving

As desire shrinks, so fades hopelessness
along with the crash and chaos
of striving and driving.

The once felt need to realize private goals
falls under the easy weightlessness
and joy of ordinary living.

A difference felt within recognizes
a shifting landscape where movement
synthesizes energy and experience.

Like the promise of a rainbow’s beauty,
something not yet visible but deeply felt
is clearing the way to reveal joy’s core.

Soon mastery will present its true face,
but until then, keep on moving.

May moving into a new adventure joyfully unstick old limiting habits. Namaste.
