Transforming Fear to Joy

Life Purpose: Inspiration not Impulse

Every person is sent to this outpost called earth to work on a project that is intended to keep the cosmic order healthy.      African Elder Malidoma Some

Our life purpose — the creative contribution we intuitively know we are here on earth to discover and express — is synonymous with Malidoma’s ‘project’.  Although we may be aware we are unique, many of us are uncertain or unconscious of what that uniqueness is and how to operationalize it.

To give you an example, my life purpose is to “transform fear into joy for me, from me, for all.”  Some years back I discovered making decisions based on my fears limited my creativity, potential and outcomes, ultimately decreasing my health and well-being.  On the other hand, when I acted authentically (in line with my purpose), my sense of fulfilment, personal well-being and success increased.

In a recent conversation with friends, I found myself remembering and repeating another personal discovery, “In order for me to know my authentic self and thereby my life purpose, I first had to understand the difference between impulse and intuition.”  Those listening nodded their heads in agreement indicating they intuitively understood the truth in that statement.  What that truth implies is illustrated below:

In order for us to know our truth — who we are and why we are here — we must connect with and trust our spiritual insights or intuitions.  If we typically rely on our rational mind and our five senses (taste, touch, sight, sound, smell) to inform our decisions and actions, we won’t recognize intuition and will have great difficulty allowing inspiration to unveil our purpose.  Intuition arises during uncertainty and creates the breakthrough discovery that evolves our behaviour, beliefs and being.

What fills you with passion that you uniquely give to life?  What present moment change (attitude, behaviour, belief, feeling) do you need to make to live your life with passion and purpose?
